  • As a luxury photographer, I believe that the details make all the difference. Styling your family for your photoshoot not only enhances the aesthetic but also ensures your images capture the timeless elegance I aim for in every session. Here are some tips to help you curate a look that will shine on camera:

    1. Choose a Coordinated, Not Matching, Palette

While matching outfits are tempting, I recommend a coordinated color palette instead. Opt for soft, complementary hues that work well together. Think neutral tones—creams, whites, light greys, and muted pastels. You can add some depth with subtle accents of color like sage green, blush pink, or navy. Avoid loud patterns or logos, as they can distract from the focus—your beautiful family!

    1. Textures Add Dimension

Layers and textures can bring an image to life. Incorporating materials like linen, wool, or soft cotton helps add depth and interest to your look. Consider a light knit sweater, a flowy dress, or a chic blazer. Just remember—less is more. Keep the layers balanced to avoid looking too bulky.

    1. Fit is Key

Clothing that fits well will always photograph better than something too tight or too loose. When in doubt, choose pieces that highlight your family’s natural shapes. If you’re unsure about sizing or fit, feel free to ask for my advice—I’m happy to help!

    1. Timeless Over Trendy

Think about what you want to showcase in your family photos—your connection, love, and personality. Timeless, classic clothing choices tend to photograph better and remain relevant for years to come. While trends are fun, I recommend avoiding anything too “of the moment” so your images don’t feel dated.

    1. Accessorize Subtly

Accessories should enhance your look, not overpower it. Simple jewelry, scarves, and belts can add the right finishing touch without taking attention away from you and your family. Avoid oversized or distracting accessories.

    1. Plan for Comfort

A luxury photoshoot should feel effortless, and comfort plays a big role. Choose outfits that make you feel confident and at ease. When you're comfortable, it shows in your photos. Consider footwear that matches the location and vibe of the shoot, but also ensures that you can move naturally.

    1. Hair and Makeup

A polished yet natural look works best. If you'd like to book a professional hair and makeup artist, I can provide recommendations for someone who will help you feel camera-ready while keeping the look authentic. If you’re styling your hair and makeup yourself, aim for a soft, natural look that complements your outfit and setting.

    1. Location and Season Matters

Keep in mind the season and location of your photoshoot. Outdoor settings may call for softer, earthy tones in the fall or spring, while an urban shoot might allow for something a little edgier. I am happy to discuss location and seasonal considerations with you in advance to ensure your look matches your chosen backdrop.

    1. Final Check

Before the shoot, do a final check in natural light to ensure that everything works together harmoniously. If you’re unsure about any particular item or piece of clothing, feel free to send a photo to me—I’m here to help and offer advice.
